Splendid Salvage

Barbed wire --so cool, but so cruel to work with!

Add a lamp base for a totally unique light

Never met a rusty patina I didn't love

Truck salvage as art vases
And wall vases
Shoulda gotten more of these metal letters and numbers

Fun find

Recently found this unusual welded piece.
Aside from the obvious use in adding round glass for the tabletop, the possibilities are abundant--especially if you are surrounded by lots of salvage junk to pick from (as I always seem to be, despite all my efforts to destash).
A glass top provides the most tabletop space but I love how this looks with the rusty gear in the center, while still adding some function (as long as the items placed on top aren't too small!).

I like this mixture of metals, textures and tones (large Pottery Barn charger in middle with my chicken wire spheres on top) in this arrangement, which transforms it from a table to a sculpture!

Still bending wire

I feel like Edward Scissorhands...but with wire cutters instead!

Above is a tall photo/sign holder display stand (I also made a wire bird cage that can hang from it)

I try to create things with at least some sort of functionality

This was a fun use of little metal flowers that I had salvaged from a lamp, but making the wire cloche frame took a really long time.

I might try mounting these on wood molding for added interest and stability, but they are so easy to just hang on hooks or walls like this.
Bees are fun for spring....but functional? maybe not so much.

I greatly appreciate the kind encouragers and amazing purchasers of my sassy products on Etsy and at shows!

Blog Inspirations: Tres Julie: "Praise You In This Storm"

This beautiful blog has become one of my favorite go-to places for all sorts of inspiration....and I almost missed this post showcasing my all-time favorite song, "Praise You In This Storm" by Casting Crowns.  She posts beautiful coastal photography with lyrics interspersed for a stunning journey. Awesome Julie!

Seaside serenity

mid december on the gulf coast
before snowbirds and tourists arrive from the frozen north
warm and serene

the lovely water provided a living biology lab
so much to discover
if one takes the time to really see

it was hard to go back to cold and rain
but by now sarasota will be filled with mega traffic

and the beaches will be filled with crowds
leaving their footprints in the beautiful white sand

Chicken-sittin'

While my son was away for a long weekend I did a little chicken-sittin' (aka sittin' and watchin' the chickens).  Introducing (in random order, since I don't remember which is which) Pebbles; Minnie; Bessie; Dixie; Daisy; Daisy Mae; and of course, Foghorn Leghorn (a bit gender-confused since all of these are girl chickens...uh....hens)
They have the coolest abode ever
Quite the ritzy place
It's hypnotizing to watch them.....so calming and zen
They even have a rose garden
AND....I just received a text saying that the very FIRST egg was delivered by....DAISY! (one of the white hens)
I don't know much about chickens, but still dream of having a few some day.....along with honey bees, goats, a large cottage garden, vistas of farmland with no houses in sight, and of course, a cool old barn with some hard-working barn cats!
